Karachi is experiencing rapid growth but faces significant challenges in terms of safety, health, and environmental hazards. The city’s population of 20.4 million, according to the Digital Census 2023, puts immense pressure on infrastructure and resources.

Key concerns include road safety, electric safety, building safety, and environmental hazards such as heatwaves and flooding. The city’s traffic congestion, coupled with a high rate of accidents, underscores the need for improved road management. Additionally, the prevalence of electrocution incidents, often caused by illegal power connections, highlights the dangers posed by inadequate electrical infrastructure.

To address these issues, K-Electric has launched the Alertli app, enabling citizens to report safety hazards directly to authorities. The app leverages technology to improve response times and enhance public safety.

However, the city requires a comprehensive approach involving government agencies, private sector entities, and citizens to effectively tackle these challenges. Collaborative efforts are crucial to creating a safer and more resilient Karachi.

Launched in 1967 internationally, ComputerWorld is the oldest tech magazine/media property in the world. In Pakistan, ComputerWorld was launched in 1995. Initially providing news to IT executives only, once CIO Pakistan, its sister brand from the same family, was launched and took over the enterprise reporting domain in Pakistan, CWPK has emerged as a holistic technology media platform reporting everything tech in the country. It remains the oldest continuous IT publishing brand in the country and in 2025 is set to turn 30 years old, which will be its biggest benchmark and a legacy it hopes to continue for years to come.
