International Women’s Day 2018’s Google Doodle: 12 Stories. 1 Doodle!

Mother Theresa once said,

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

With Women’s Day upon us, it is important to realize the importance of women in the economical development of our country but as a global society as well. Therefore, to honor the women who have worked hard to achieve their dreams and make a name for themselves, and fought against all odds to survive Google put up the most inspiring doodle. The announcement said,

“Today, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the stories and voices of another group of extraordinary women—the everyday women living all over the world.”

The doodle features the work of 12 artists from 12 different countries creating a visual anthology that brings forth unheard stories of womanhood. The Doodlers and Project Lead on the IWD 2018 project explaining the concept said the concept of this is to celebrate the voices and stories of everyday women living in the world.

The 12 stories featured on the doodle represent a moment, and tells a story of how one moment impacted their lives as a woman.

For this year’s International Women’s Day, Google’s interactive Doodle, is a collection of the stories of 12 female artists of varying backgrounds sharing their personal stories in a series of visual narratives. Specifically, Google shares, each story represents a moment, person, or event that has impacted their lives as women.

Lydia Nichols & Alyssa Winans, Doodlers & IWD 2018 Project Leads, share on the Google Doodle for IWD2018:

This project has been an incredible journey for us, and we’ve been moved by the candor, intimacy, and bravery of our contributors’ stories. Translating these works across 80+ languages and sharing them across a global audience means so much to us, and we hope that readers will go about their day feeling as inspired as we do.

Special thanks to our storytellers, readers, and everyone involved in this project to celebrate such an important day. And last -but certainly not least- thanks to all the women in our own lives who continue to move and change the world with their own stories.

While each artist tells a unique story, the themes are universal, reminding us of how much we often have in common. We hope that the combined power of words and images help bring these stories to life in a way that invokes feelings of understanding, empathy, and spirit of the day.

Although officially there were only 12 stories featured, Google invites storytellers of all kinds to join in by posting their own personal stories about a moment, person, or event that has impacted their lives as women using #HerStoryOurStory!
