Iran’s Deputy Minister and Head of Organization of Investment, Economic and Technical Assistant (OIETAI), Ali Fekri, led a high-level delegation that recently met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss bilateral economic cooperation and strengthen ties between the two nations. Held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the meeting marked an important milestone in enhancing trade and investment opportunities between Pakistan and Iran.
During the meeting, Sadiq warmly welcomed the Iranian delegation and expressed gratitude for their visit. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to its longstanding and friendly relations with Iran and its desire to strengthen bilateral ties, which would contribute to regional stability and prosperity. Sadiq also highlighted the significance of promptly implementing agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) reached during the 21st session of the Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation and improved transportation links.
Fekri expressed Iran’s keen interest in collaborating with Pakistan and shared their investment plans in various sectors, including energy projects and infrastructure development. He acknowledged the favorable investment climate in Pakistan and the government’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment. Fekri also expressed Iran’s interest in participating in projects facilitated by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Pakistan, aiming to introduce Iranian companies and foster stronger bilateral relations. The importance of enhancing the banking channel between the two countries was emphasized, highlighting the potential for bilateral trade through barter arrangements.
The discussions primarily focused on exploring opportunities for increased trade, investment, and technical cooperation across sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure development, manufacturing, and technology. Special attention was given to accelerating the implementation and successful completion of projects like the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India (TAPI) gas pipeline and Pakistan-Iran Gas initiatives.
Both sides recognized the significance of enhancing bilateral trade volume and pledged to facilitate the business communities of both countries in leveraging the vast economic cooperation opportunities available.
