Apple has officially launched its latest iPhone lineup, unveiling the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus during its Glowtime event. These new models build on the success of the iPhone 15, offering customizable controls, improved camera functionality, and the introduction of Apple Intelligence AI features. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, starting at $799 and $899 respectively, maintain the same pricing as last year’s models. Preorders begin Friday, with availability in stores on September 20.

A key update in the iPhone 16 series is the new dedicated “camera control button” that enhances photo and video capturing. Positioned along the side of the device, this feature allows users to take photos, adjust zoom by sliding, and switch modes with a double press, even within third-party apps. Apple is promoting this button as a tool to rival DSLR cameras, making it easier to capture high-quality images.

In addition to the new camera control button, the iPhone 16 introduces a “visual intelligence” feature, which allows users to point their phone at objects to learn more about them—similar to Google Lens. Though this feature won’t be available at launch, Apple plans to roll it out later this year. The iPhone 16 maintains the 48-megapixel main camera seen in the iPhone 15 but adds an ultrawide sensor capable of capturing up to 2.6 times more light, significantly improving low-light performance.

Another notable addition is the Action button, previously only available on Pro models. This customizable button allows users to set shortcuts for tasks such as launching apps, enabling Do Not Disturb mode, or controlling the flashlight. The new iPhones retain the same screen sizes as last year—6.1 inches for the iPhone 16 and 6.7 inches for the iPhone 16 Plus.

Under the hood, both models are powered by the new A18 processor, optimized for iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence AI features. Battery life sees a modest improvement, with the iPhone 16 offering two additional hours of video playback compared to its predecessor, and the iPhone 16 Plus adding four more hours of streaming time.

Apple has also introduced vibrant new color options for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, including white, black, ultramarine, teal, and pink. With a focus on enhanced camera capabilities, AI integration, and user-friendly controls, the iPhone 16 series represents a significant upgrade for those seeking cutting-edge mobile technology.
