Internet users across Pakistan will not experience any service degradation on Thursday, following confirmation from the upstream connectivity provider that the planned maintenance activity on a submarine cable has been postponed. The clarification comes after earlier advisories had suggested a possible slowdown for some broadband users, particularly customers of Nayatel. The latest update brings reassurance to consumers and businesses alike, as national connectivity remains stable and fully operational.

Transworld Associates, which provides international bandwidth connectivity to multiple internet service providers in Pakistan, stated that the scheduled maintenance on one of the country’s submarine cables will not take place as planned. Submarine cables play a critical role in carrying international internet traffic, and even routine maintenance activities often raise concerns among users due to the potential for reduced speeds or temporary service constraints. With the postponement of this activity, Transworld Associates has effectively removed the risk of any short term impact on internet performance during the notified timeframe.

Earlier in the day, concerns had emerged after PTA and internal correspondence from an internet service provider indicated that Nayatel users could face an internet slowdown. Nayatel had also informed its customers via email that an unavoidable maintenance activity was planned on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15 at around 2pm, with an expected duration of up to eight hours. The company cautioned that this could result in slower internet speeds across parts of the country. While the advisory was issued as a precautionary measure, it triggered speculation and uncertainty, particularly on social media platforms where reports began circulating about a possible nationwide internet disruption, without reference to any specific ISP or technical detail.

Responding to the growing discussion, PTA issued a clear statement to address the situation and dispel misinformation. The authority said that information regarding any disruption of internet services on January 15 was incorrect and lacked a factual basis. According to PTA, internet services across Pakistan remain stable and fully operational, and routine submarine cable maintenance activities that are currently ongoing are not expected to affect users. PTA also emphasized that it continues to actively monitor national networks to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for consumers, enterprises, and critical services. This monitoring is part of its standard operational role, particularly during periods when international cable systems undergo planned technical work.

Pakistan relies on multiple submarine cables to support its international data traffic, and coordination between upstream providers, local ISPs, and regulators is essential to minimize any user impact. In this instance, the postponement of maintenance by Transworld Associates, combined with clarification from PTA, has ensured continuity of service and helped restore confidence among internet users. For Nayatel customers and users of other networks, the confirmation means normal browsing, streaming, and business operations can continue without concern, reinforcing the importance of timely communication and accurate information in the digital connectivity ecosystem.
