Pakistan took a major step towards strengthening its applied artificial intelligence capabilities with the launch of the Prime Minister’s AI Research Fellowship at Indus AI Week 2026. Announced by Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, this national initiative is designed to cultivate world class AI talent capable of developing solutions for real world and global challenges. The fellowship represents a focused effort to transition from broad scale ambitions to creating AI systems that deploy effectively, perform reliably, and generate measurable value across industries.

wAI Industries has joined the initiative under the patronage of the Prime Minister’s Office and Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasizing collaboration between government, industry, and academia. The program aims to identify and nurture talented individuals in Pakistan, equipping them with practical skills in applied AI, research methodologies, and problem solving frameworks. Fellows will have opportunities to engage in projects that address both national and international priorities, demonstrating how AI can be leveraged to generate meaningful outcomes in health, education, governance, and technology innovation.

The fellowship also reflects a strategic shift in Pakistan’s AI vision, focusing on quality, applied intelligence, and practical implementation rather than scale for its own sake. Participants will gain hands on experience with state of the art AI tools, frameworks, and collaborative projects, preparing them to contribute directly to the growing AI ecosystem. By fostering applied expertise, the initiative positions Pakistan to play a constructive role in the global AI landscape, moving beyond adoption to leadership in the development of practical, high impact AI solutions.

Through the Prime Minister’s AI Research Fellowship, Pakistan is investing in a new generation of AI professionals who will be capable of addressing real world problems, developing commercially viable AI applications, and contributing to the country’s reputation as an emerging hub for applied artificial intelligence. The program invites ambitious learners, researchers, and innovators to participate, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to building a sustainable AI ecosystem that integrates education, industry, and national development priorities.
