The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially unveiled its plans for Indus AI Week 2026, a nationwide initiative designed to anchor the country firmly within the Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan vision for a future-ready economy. Scheduled to run from February 9 to February 15, 2026, the week-long series of events will culminate in a flagship summit at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. This extensive program aims to position Pakistan as a formidable player in the global Artificial Intelligence ecosystem by bringing together policymakers, global technology giants, academia, and the burgeoning local startup community. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has termed this event a pivotal moment for the economic transformation of the nation, emphasizing in his message that Artificial Intelligence is no longer merely a futuristic concept but a present-day necessity for effective governance and industrial growth. The vision set forth by the Prime Minister is to transition the nation from being a consumer of technology to becoming a global hub of innovation, where AI is integrated into vital sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and finance to drive efficiency and transparency.

Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted that the focus of the government has shifted significantly from policy formulation to practical adoption, inviting international investors to explore the untapped digital potential within the country. During the launch announcement, she noted that Indus AI Week serves as a move beyond dialogue to tangible adoption. The strategy involves connecting the more than 25,000 IT graduates produced annually with global AI leaders to build a sustainable ecosystem aligned with the Digital Nation Pakistan Vision. The minister added that this engagement would position Tech Destination Pakistan as a credible global hub where ethical and scalable AI solutions are developed for the world. This approach reinforces the ambition to emerge as a competitive digital economy driven by innovation, talent, and trust. The event will feature a focused set of flagship programs driving real-world AI adoption, including a Technology & Innovation Hub connecting talent with capital, an Industry Expo with on-spot interviews, and a National AI Training Bootcamp.

A significant portion of the week is dedicated to ensuring gender inclusivity in the AI economy through the “AI for HER” track, which features prominent figures from UN WOMEN. Ms. Fahmida Iqbal, the Deputy Country Representative for UN WOMEN in Pakistan, is set to speak on “From Digital Divide to Digital Dividend: Ensuring AI Works for Women and Girls in Pakistan” on February 9 at the Islamabad Sports Complex. Recognized as a powerhouse in international development, she will provide a roadmap for an AI-powered Pakistan that prioritizes equity. Joining her is Eunkyeong Kang, a Programme Specialist for UN WOMEN, who will lead a Spotlight Session titled “UN Women’s Digitalization for Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative.” Her session, also on February 9, focuses on the intersection of innovation and economic stability to ensure women lead the charge in the AI-driven future. These sessions underscore the commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution are accessible to all demographics.

The initiative has received strong backing from the private sector, with industry leaders viewing it as a major milestone for synergy between government facilitation and private innovation. Muhammad Zohaib Khan, former Chairman P@SHA and an active contributor to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) initiatives, welcomed the event as a declaration that the private sector is ready to scale intellectual property in Generative AI and Deep Tech. He noted that the Pakistani IT industry has already proven its capabilities by achieving record exports and is now poised to become a cradle for high-end AI R&D rather than just a back-office destination. In addition to the policy and inclusion tracks, the week will showcase AR/VR & Robotics for industrial use, E-Sports & Gaming to position gaming as a high-value digital export, and the Uraan AI Techathon 1.0. These diverse components collectively aim to advance the nation from potential to impact, leveraging the support of SIFC and platforms like Indus AI Week to equip the youth with world-class skills.
