ICARUS, the PvE sci-fi survival game created by DayZ developer Dean Hall and developed by Rocketwerkz, is making its console debut next month on February 26, 2026, according to publisher GRIP Studios. The console launch comes more than five years after the game’s initial PC release in 2021. Over the years, Rocketwerkz has continued to refine and expand ICARUS, addressing early launch issues and consistently adding content, which has cultivated a loyal player base. The console version will include both the base game and the New Frontiers expansion, along with the Pet Companion Pack, allowing players to manage a team of animals that includes new cats, dogs, and horses, each with their own progression systems to support survival efforts.

The New Frontiers expansion introduces the alien region of Prometheus, offering 128 square kilometers of terrain for players to explore and conquer. Surviving the hostile environment will require careful planning, resource management, and strategic combat, hallmarks that have defined ICARUS since its launch on PC. The Pet Companion Pack adds a new layer of gameplay, letting players bring animals along on expeditions, with each creature featuring a unique talent tree and survival requirements. This addition broadens the game’s mechanics, giving players more tactical options and ways to interact with the environment.

During the announcement, Dean Hall confirmed to Wccftech that crossplay between PC and console players will not be available at launch. Console players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will also be restricted to their respective platforms when playing multiplayer. While GRIP Studios is exploring the possibility of future crossplay support, no guarantees have been given regarding when or if it will be implemented. Similarly, a potential Nintendo Switch 2 edition is not a current priority, as the focus remains on delivering a polished experience for PlayStation and Xbox consoles first.

ICARUS’s console release represents a major milestone for the title, bringing the complex PvE survival experience to a wider audience while maintaining the expansions and features developed over the past six years. With its mix of strategic resource management, combat, and exploration, the game aims to appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers who want to dive into the alien landscapes of Prometheus. The addition of the Pet Companion Pack also provides a fresh layer of customization and strategy, further enhancing the game’s depth for console players.
