Hyderabad Traffic Police have started issuing e-challans through mobile robo cameras, enabling officers to digitally record traffic violations and take action against offenders on the spot. According to a police spokesperson, traffic officers will use the mobile robo cameras to capture evidence of violations, including wrong parking, one-way driving, the use of fancy or illegal number plates, and other traffic offences.
Once captured, the recorded violations are processed through the existing e-challan system, removing the need for manually written challans that had previously required more direct interaction between officers and violators. Police said the initiative is intended to improve traffic discipline and strengthen enforcement of road safety regulations through digital monitoring, allowing officers in the field to document violations more efficiently while improving transparency in how challans are issued.
The rollout of mobile robo cameras expands Hyderabad’s existing e-challan infrastructure, giving traffic police the ability to issue electronic challans directly from the field using handheld devices rather than relying solely on fixed camera installations or manual paperwork. This mobility is expected to help authorities respond more quickly to violations occurring away from stationary camera points, broadening the practical reach of digital enforcement across the city.
The move adds to a broader pattern of Pakistani cities adopting camera based digital enforcement tools for traffic management, following similar e-challan systems introduced in cities such as Rawalpindi under Safe City camera networks. By giving officers handheld robo cameras rather than relying only on fixed installations, Hyderabad’s approach reflects a shift toward more flexible, field deployable digital enforcement tools aimed at improving compliance with traffic rules across areas that fixed cameras may not fully cover.
