The Higher Education Commission (HEC), through its National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), has launched a three-day training program focused on the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in university administration. The program, titled “Applied Artificial Intelligence for University Administration,” is being held from October 7 to 9, 2026, at NAHE, HEC, Islamabad. The initiative is aimed at modernizing university management and supporting the adoption of digital systems within higher education institutions. HEC has positioned the program as part of broader efforts toward Digital Pakistan and cyber-resilient higher education.
The training is specifically designed for university management and administrative officials serving in BPS-17, BPS-18 and BPS-19 positions. The eligible administrative cadres include assistant registrars, deputy registrars, controllers, treasurers and other officials involved in university administration. Each university can nominate up to five suitable officers for the program, while the top two nominations will receive preference if the available seats are limited. The three-day program is intended to give administrators practical exposure to AI tools that can be applied to routine university management functions.
According to HEC, the training will focus on practical and hands-on applications of AI for areas including student admissions, examinations, record management and overall administrative efficiency. The initiative is aimed at helping university officials understand how emerging AI tools can support administrative processes and improve the delivery of services within higher education institutions. NAHE’s broader mandate includes capacity building and continuous professional development for faculty and management across higher education, with its programs covering areas such as administrative and leadership skills, educational management and educational technology.
HEC has also announced plans to extend the training beyond Islamabad, with similar programs scheduled to be conducted subsequently at its regional centres in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta. The expansion is intended to provide university administrators in different parts of the country with access to AI-focused professional development. The latest program follows HEC’s recent efforts to build AI capabilities across higher education, including a September faculty training initiative that involved more than 332 participants and covered AI applications in teaching, research, assessment, curriculum design and academic administration. The administrator-focused program shifts that effort toward university management, with an emphasis on applying AI to institutional operations and service delivery.
