Google has begun rolling out its new Notification Organiser feature to Pixel devices, offering users a more structured approach to managing alerts on their phones. The feature was identified by 9to5Google and is currently appearing on Pixel 9 and later models with the Android 16 QPR2 update. Devices such as the Pixel 9a are not included in this rollout at the moment. Once the update is installed, users will find that Notification Organiser is enabled automatically. Availability is region specific, with access limited to users who have English set as their primary language and reside in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, the UK, or the US. Users can locate the feature by navigating to Settings then Notifications where Notification organiser appears as a new option within the menu.

The update introduces a new system that automatically arranges incoming notifications into separate categories. Promotions and News are already active when the feature is enabled, while users can choose to add Social and Suggested as optional categories depending on their personal preferences. This classification approach is intended to streamline the experience of handling multiple alerts by grouping similar items together. For many, periods of high promotional activity can be overwhelming, particularly during seasonal shopping campaigns. In such cases, having the ability to silence promotional notices entirely can reduce unnecessary distractions. Social notifications can also be managed in a more structured way, ensuring that users who receive frequent updates from various platforms can keep them under control without disabling them completely.

Another part of the feature allows users to turn on the option to always expand bubbles for specific notification types. This setting makes it possible to view the full content of certain alerts instantly without needing additional taps to open them. Users who rely heavily on quick access to real time updates may find this helpful, especially for categories they consider important. Google has stated through its support material that AI is part of the processing involved in sorting and handling these notifications. This AI driven approach is designed to identify patterns within alerts and apply the appropriate categorisation, though some users may observe variation in accuracy. Experiences with previous AI based notification systems have shown mixed results across different platforms, including those on competing devices, which leads to some level of caution regarding how consistently the new feature will perform.

Notification Organiser follows shortly after the introduction of AI summaries that arrived with the same Android 16 QPR2 update last week. Google’s latest enhancements reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to refine the notification experience across its Pixel lineup. As more users receive the update, feedback will likely guide improvements to the categorisation engine and overall usability of the new system. With the rollout underway, Pixel 9 and newer device owners in supported regions can now explore a more organised and customisable notification environment intended to simplify daily phone interactions.
