Google has announced a significant update to its Photo to video feature in Google Photos, offering users enhanced control over turning still images into short videos. The updated functionality allows users aged 18 and older to create animated videos from their photos using custom text prompts. This feature enables individuals to describe the type of motion, visual style, or effect they want applied to an image, with the ability to edit and refine prompts to adjust the final result. Google positions this as a way to make image-based video creation more dynamic, personalized, and engaging.

Alongside the introduction of text prompts, the update includes guided suggestions designed to assist users who are unsure what to input. These suggestions can be tapped for quick inspiration, helping users achieve creative outcomes even without prior experience in video editing. Existing options such as Subtle Movement and I’m Feeling Lucky remain available, allowing users to generate videos with a single tap. The addition of text-based guidance gives users a new level of creative flexibility, making it possible to tailor animations in ways that were previously unavailable in the platform.

Google has also added audio support to the Photo to video feature, enabling videos created from photos to include sound by default. This applies to both videos generated using Google’s built-in templates and those created with custom text prompts. According to the company, the inclusion of audio is intended to enhance the overall experience by providing a more immersive and complete final output. By combining motion, style adjustments, and audio, the update transforms static images into engaging multimedia content suitable for sharing on social media or preserving memorable moments.

The updated Photo to video feature is being rolled out as part of Google Photos and represents a continuation of the company’s efforts to integrate AI-driven creativity into everyday applications. By allowing users to animate images with precise text prompts, Google aims to provide a simple yet flexible solution for creating personalized video content. The update reflects a broader trend in consumer tech toward interactive and intelligent media editing tools, enabling users to produce high-quality digital content without specialized software or professional skills. With guided suggestions and audio integration, Google Photos now offers a more complete platform for transforming photos into dynamic videos that can better capture moments and express creativity.
