Google has introduced its AI-powered Search experience, known as AI Mode, to users in Pakistan, bringing the company’s most advanced search capabilities to the local market. Initially rolled out in the United States earlier this year, AI Mode is now expanding globally and has reached Pakistan in English, allowing users to access faster, smarter and more comprehensive answers to complex questions directly from Google Search. According to the company, this experience resonates with people who value speed, quality and fresh responses, providing them with a more interactive way to search and discover content.

Powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5, AI Mode allows people in Pakistan to ask longer and more complex questions that previously required multiple searches. Google shared that early testing revealed users’ queries are already two to three times longer than traditional searches, which shows its utility for exploratory tasks such as comparing products, planning a trip or understanding complex processes. AI Mode dives deeper to answer multiple questions at once and supplies helpful links for further exploration. For instance, a user could plan a trip to Hunza by asking for a five-day itinerary balancing sightseeing, adventure and local food experiences, and then follow up by requesting recommendations for traditional dishes or local food spots in Hunza.

Behind the scenes, AI Mode relies on a query fan-out technique that breaks a user’s question into subtopics and issues a multitude of queries on their behalf. This enables Search to dive deeper into the web than before, retrieving hyper-relevant content and presenting it in a unified answer box. What distinguishes AI Mode from traditional search is that it combines advanced model capabilities with Google’s information systems and is built directly into Search. Users in Pakistan can access high-quality web content while also benefiting from real-time sources such as the Knowledge Graph and shopping data for billions of products.

AI Mode is also designed to go beyond text, supporting multimodal input for a more flexible user experience. People can type queries, use their voice, or upload images to engage with Search in whichever way they find most comfortable. Leveraging Google Lens, users can take pictures of what they see and pose their queries. For example, a shopper in a Karachi market can snap a photo of unfamiliar spices and ask what they are and how they can be used in Pakistani cooking. The system also supports conversational follow-up questions, making it easier for users to refine their searches without starting over.

Google emphasises that helping people discover content from across the web remains at the core of its mission. With AI Mode, users in Pakistan can express exactly what they are looking for, with all its nuances, and receive the right web content in a range of formats. Rooted in the company’s quality and ranking systems, AI Mode uses new approaches to improve factuality. The aim is to provide an AI-powered response whenever possible but, in cases of low confidence, present a traditional set of web search results instead. As with any early-stage AI product, it may not always deliver perfect responses, but Google is committed to ongoing improvements. AI Mode is now live in Pakistan in English on the Google App for Android and iOS, as well as on mobile and desktop web, bringing an upgraded Search experience to millions of users across the country.
