Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Link+ is the latest smartphone-focused instant printer in the company’s Mini Link range, offering sharper prints, a redesigned body and an expanded companion app. The portable printer connects to smartphones through Bluetooth and turns digital images into physical Instax photographs. Tech Advisor’s review describes it as the most capable printer in the Mini Link family so far, while noting that its improved performance comes with a higher price than the Mini Link 3. The printer is priced at $169.95 in the United States and £129.99 in the United Kingdom.
The Mini Link+ features a more angular design than earlier Mini Link models and measures 86.7 x 33.4 x 128mm, weighing 240g without film. Fujifilm includes a wrist strap and a USB-C cable, while the device uses a built-in lithium-ion battery. The printer can produce up to around 100 prints on a single charge, according to Fujifilm, with charging taking approximately two hours from empty. The compact design makes it suitable for carrying in a coat pocket or holding in one hand, although the review notes that the sharper edges can make it less convenient to slide into and out of a pocket.
A major addition is the new Design Print mode, which is designed for images containing text and graphics, including posters, illustrations and quote cards. The Instax Mini Link app also includes Simple Print, Simulation, Multiple Print, Video Print, Collage Print, Frame Print and Click to Collage features. Users can queue up to 10 images, create collages using 14 layouts, choose from more than 80 frame options and add augmented reality effects through Instax AiR Studio. The app also includes an Instax Camera feature that allows the printer to act as a remote shutter for a smartphone camera.
The printer uses Instax Mini instant film rather than ink, exposing the film through a built-in OLED light source. Each print measures 86 x 54mm, with a 62 x 46mm image area, and Fujifilm rates the printer at 318dpi with 256 tonal levels per RGB colour channel. Tech Advisor found the prints sharp and detailed, particularly when using Design Print for text, although the colours were considered less punchy than those from some competing printers. A print takes about 15 seconds to emerge, followed by roughly 90 seconds for the film to fully develop. With its improved print quality, extensive app features and strong battery life, the Instax Mini Link+ positions itself as a more capable portable photo printer, although the separate cost of Instax Mini film adds to the overall expense.
