Finance Minister and Gates Foundation Discuss FBR Digitalization and E-Governance

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Jason Lamb, Deputy Director for Focus Country Implementation at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, today at the Finance Division to discuss the ongoing digitalization initiatives in Pakistan.

Minister Aurangzeb expressed his gratitude for the foundation’s support, particularly in engaging McKinsey & Co. to aid Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in its digital transformation. He highlighted the crucial role of e-governance in Pakistan, noting that the digitization of the tax system is a vital step towards modernizing tax collection, enhancing transparency, and boosting revenue growth.

Additionally, the minister pointed out the need for improvements in existing data sources to better utilize them for tax purposes. Minister of State Ali Pervaiz Malik addressed the implementation challenges of RAAST, Pakistan’s instant payment system, and discussed strategies to enhance its functionality.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to collaborate closely in achieving these goals. The discussion was also attended by Member Reforms FBR and CEO Karandaaz, underscoring the collective effort towards advancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
