Maj Gen Muhammad Ayub Ahsan Bhatti, Director General of the Land Information & Management System (LIMS), held a meeting with Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, to explore avenues of collaboration in advancing technology-led solutions for land information management in Pakistan. The discussion underscored the government’s commitment to leveraging digital transformation to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in land resource governance.
The Land Information & Management System is a flagship digital initiative designed to address long-standing challenges in land administration. By digitizing land records, LIMS seeks to reduce inefficiencies, eliminate duplication, and curb the risks of mismanagement and corruption associated with manual systems. It aims to provide a central platform that not only ensures accurate record-keeping but also makes information more accessible to government departments, institutions, and eventually citizens. The initiative is considered a critical step toward strengthening governance and enabling data-driven decision-making in resource management, agricultural planning, and urban development.
During the meeting, Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in building sustainable digital infrastructure. She emphasized that the IT Ministry is committed to supporting projects that align with Pakistan’s broader digital transformation agenda, particularly those that contribute to e-governance and citizen service delivery. The integration of technology in land management, she noted, will not only streamline processes but also serve as a foundation for innovation in other related areas, including smart cities, real estate development, and environmental monitoring.
Maj Gen Ayub Ahsan Bhatti reaffirmed LIMS’s vision of establishing a transparent and reliable land information framework. He stressed that the system is being developed to ensure security, scalability, and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of different stakeholders. He also pointed out that digital land management will have far-reaching impacts, ranging from reducing land disputes to enabling more effective policy planning and investment facilitation. By ensuring accurate mapping and real-time data availability, LIMS is expected to enhance both public sector efficiency and private sector confidence in land-related transactions.
