FBR Develops Software Biweekly Data Collection from Mobile Operators
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla headed a standing committee on finance, highlighting the capacity constraints of the Federal Board of Revenue. In a review for the telecommunication companies’ audit, the Federal Board of Revenue was called in for an update. Findings from the meeting revealed that FBR does not have the capacity to analyze transaction wise data of withholding taxes collected by telecommunication companies. In return, this was an additional burden on the existing taxpayers in order to reach their annual targets.
On the telecommunication operators side, it seems as if the companies were reluctant in sharing customer data with Federal Board of Revenue. However, PTA had to step in to have this resolved. FBR representative revealed that a new software has been designed to collect data on a biweekly basis, from all telecom operators.
As per Phoneworld, he said:
“The companies were reluctant to share the data with the FBR describing huge customer base and confidentiality as the reasons but the matter has been resolved after involving the PTA. Ufone, Telenor and Mobilink have started providing data for the last three months”
Shahi Syed emphasized that withholding tax should only be deducted on mobile phone cards for Rs. 100 amount. Another recommendation that came in was for PTA to eradicate any free distribution of SIM cards across the country.
The result of this software may be positive in better management of data collection and taxation.
