Etsy has officially added Pakistan to its list of supported countries for Etsy Payments, allowing Pakistani artisans and entrepreneurs to open shops on the global marketplace. With the ability to receive payments directly through Payoneer, local sellers now have an easy route to reach international customers, offering a fresh opportunity for growth in the world of e-commerce.

Etsy is an e-commerce platform focused on small businesses and artisans which sell handmade or vintage items. Internationally, Etsy is one of the most popular marketplaces particularly for handmade, vintage, and craft supplies. In their early days, they separated themselves from the likes of Amazon and eBay by focusing on handcrafted, artistic work only, but the platform has expanded to much more since then.

They had previously excluded sellers from Pakistan and several other regions due to the absence of direct payment support. However, this latest update changes that, granting Pakistani sellers access to Etsy Payments—via Payoneer. With the introduction of Payoneer as a payment option, Pakistani sellers no longer need to rely on third-party services or international partners to facilitate payments. This development provides local artisans and small business owners with the tools to easily sell and receive funds globally.

Boosting Pakistan’s E-Commerce Industry

Amazon’s decision to open up to Pakistani sellers, back in 2021 was already a game-changer for the country’s e-commerce landscape, offering entrepreneurs an unprecedented gateway to global markets. Now, with Etsy’s integration into Pakistan’s payment ecosystem, the stakes are even higher. For years, Pakistani artisans, designers, and craftsmen have faced limitations in reaching international consumers due to payment and logistical challenges. However, by partnering with Payoneer, Etsy is effectively eliminating these roadblocks, empowering sellers to tap into a vast global audience. This seamless access to a worldwide marketplace is set to not only increase sales but also elevate Pakistan’s position in the global e-commerce space, much like Amazon did in the past.

How to Start Selling on Etsy from Pakistan

For Pakistani entrepreneurs eager to tap into the global marketplace, here’s how they can get started:

  1. Create an Etsy Seller Account – Register on the platform and set up your shop.
  2. Enroll in Etsy Payments – Select Payoneer as the primary payment method.
  3. Link Payoneer Account – Sign up for Payoneer (if you don’t already have an account) and link it to Etsy for smooth transactions.
  4. List Products – Upload images, set prices, and write product descriptions to make your shop stand out.
  5. Start Selling Globally – Once approved, your shop will be visible to Etsy’s vast international audience.

Global Expansion and Local Impact

This move aligns with Etsy’s broader strategy to expand its seller base globally, particularly in emerging markets. By offering direct payment solutions, Etsy not only enables local sellers to tap into international markets but also supports the growth of the handmade craft sector in Pakistan. For local artisans, the benefits are clear: Etsy’s platform provides access to millions of potential customers worldwide, while Payoneer’s easy integration with Pakistani banks ensures smooth, secure transactions. The result is a new level of accessibility that promises to elevate the local craft industry, from textiles and jewelry to artwork and home décor.

Etsy’s integration of Pakistan into its Etsy Payments system marks a historic milestone for the country’s digital economy and small business ecosystem. With the ability to sell directly on the platform and receive payments via Payoneer, Pakistani sellers can now leverage Etsy’s vast global reach, unlocking new revenue streams and driving the growth of Pakistan’s digital and handmade goods market.

For aspiring Pakistani entrepreneurs, there has never been a better time to tap into the booming global e-commerce industry. Etsy is now open for business—globally and locally.
