“Let us stand together to make of our world a sustainable source for our future as humanity on this planet.” – Nelson Mandela

The world is to observe Earth Hour 2017 at 8:30pm on the 25th of March 2017. Pakistan along with the international community has taken a pledge to observe the Earth Hour.

World Wildlife Federation (WWF) Pakistan is to coordinate activities across the country for the Earth Hour like they do every year. Some of the major activities for the Earth Hour are planned to take place at National Assembly building, Islamabad; Frere Hall, Karachi; Emporium Mall, Lahore; and Ladies Club, Peshawar where candle lit vigils and pledges by the government and the civil society representatives are to be taken place where they will be promising to work towards a more environmental friendly lifestyle.

The celebrations for Earth Hour 2017 were inaugurated by WWF Pakistan at Alliance Francaise de Karachi on 15th March 2017, with the theme being: Shine a Light on Climate Change. Climate change is a huge concern for the entire world and according to Ali Dehlavi, Regional Head for Sindh and Balochistan WWF Pakistan,

“Melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and more frequent weather extremes such as heatwave and super floods will leave no continent untouched.”
