Dubai has taken a significant step towards becoming a global leader in AI governance by appointing 22 Chief AI Officers across various government departments. This announcement was made by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
The appointments align with the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI, a strategic vision for utilizing AI to enhance government operations and services. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that AI is a key pillar in achieving Dubai’s vision for the future of governance, positioning the city as a hub for developing and deploying AI solutions.
The Chief AI Officers will be responsible for driving innovation within their respective departments, including the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, and Dubai Health Authority (DHA). This diverse group of officials represents a range of government entities, aiming to transform Dubai’s approach to problem-solving and service delivery across various sectors.
This initiative builds upon the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI launched in April by Sheikh Hamdan. The appointment of Chief AI Officers marks the first phase, with subsequent plans including a comprehensive program to attract and enable data centers and the introduction of a new AI company license.
By embracing AI and establishing a dedicated leadership structure, Dubai is demonstrating its commitment to becoming a global leader in the responsible and effective application of artificial intelligence across government operations.
