A new report by Google has revealed that investing in digital skills training and increasing the adoption of education technologies can significantly boost Pakistan’s GDP by Rs 2.8 trillion by 2030.
At the “Agay Barho: A Google for Pakistan Event” in Islamabad, Google shared its latest findings and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital economy. The report, “Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy,” highlights the potential of digital exports to drive economic growth and recovery.
Despite economic challenges, Pakistan’s IT industry has emerged as a key driver of growth. IT services exports have grown 2.7 times since 2014, reaching 35% of all service-sector exports in 2023. Digital technologies, particularly AI, are crucial in accelerating exports by enabling new opportunities and market access.
Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja praised Google for its initiatives in driving Pakistan’s digital economy forward and creating jobs for thousands of young people.
Farhan S. Qureshi, Google Pakistan’s country director, emphasized the company’s contributions to Pakistan’s economy, including AI-powered tools contributing Rs 3.9 trillion and the local production of 500,000 Chromebooks.
Google’s services have provided significant economic benefits to Pakistani businesses and households, contributing to job creation and economic activity. The company has also launched new programs to enhance digital skills and support freelancers.
