By 4 pm today, all the cellular operators to submit their bids. The government expects to raise $1.3 billion from the auction of next generation of mobile communications. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Chairman Dr. Ismail Shah stated in a recent hearing at Supreme Court. Adding to that, the Minister of State for Information & Technology, Anusha Rehman quoted similar amount of money in front of a senate committee. 

Socio-economic impact of 3G/4G technology 

The Government of Pakistan is going to auction 3G/4G spectrum on April 23, 2014.The introduction of 3G/4G will enhance the broadband propagation in Pakistan. This service will generate revenue between Rs.380 and Rs.1180 up to 2020 for national exchequer of the country. With the launch of this service mobile users will immediately move from text or voice based services to data driven services like video calling, live video streaming, e-education, e-banking, e-health, e-commerce and other social media applications. The 3G/4G service will provide ever-present internet access to users through Smartphones. This technology will lay down digital infrastructure to cater governments, businesses and common people in the 21st century. 

 

Tech and Art Festival comes to end

400 students from 40 educational institutions including University of Engineering and Technology, FAST, Punjab University, Kinnaird College, UCP and UMT participated in the eighteen competitions. The most stimulating event of the festival was Coding Geek (junior/senior), won by Punjab University’s Codebots and Sheheen teams.
The E-gamming was the most participated event the winners of which included PUCIT, GCU and UET in different categories. Javed Iqbal from COMSATS came first in Concept Art Design, while Komal from Lahore College for Women University stole the first position in Typography competition. Moreover structure design and scavenger hunt were won by the teams of NCA and GCU respectively. Laeeque Ahmed won Essay Writing (English), while Afaz Warsi stood first in Urdu Essay Writing. In Article Writing (English), Asmat Ullah, while in Article Writing (Urdu) Huma Hafeez won the competitions respectively.
