The total number of 5G base stations in China will reach over two million by the end of this year, according to a news conference held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Tuesday.
By 2022, China hopes to have 2 million 5G base stations. According to Wang Peng from the MIIT’s Bureau of Information and Communications Administration, the nation presently has 1.85 million 5G base stations, of which 300,000 were constructed in the second quarter of this year. According to Wang, who also noted that the number of 5G applications has crossed 20,000, the combined application of 5G and gigabit optical networks has been promoted to sectors of industry, healthcare, education, and transportation at a quicker rate.
China has been carrying forward the promotion of 5G+industrial internet with more than 3,100 related projects under construction, including 700 new projects in the second quarter.
New energy vehicles have seen technological advancements. At the press briefing, MIIT Chief Engineer Tian Yulong stated that freshly created laser radars, homegrown chips, and vehicle-based computer platforms have all been used on automobiles. According to Tian, the energy density for a mass-produced ternary battery reached the greatest level in the world—300 watt-hour/kg—and the energy density for a cobalt-free battery—240 watt-hour/kg. China created 1.3 million electrical charging stations in the first half of this year, which is 3.8 times more than in the same period last year, and more than 10,000 battery recycling service points.
