With the widespread growth and elongated lockdown restriction in the country, the e-commerce industry in Pakistan has never been of greater importance. As social distancing is expected to grow, e-commerce companies have now started to promote measures that ensure safe online shopping. As people have been maintaining social distancing for a while now, the CEO of Foodpanda has given an advice to the public to ensure they can fend of coronavirus and stabilize the economy.

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to march across Pakistan, social distancing has been implemented to ensure the contagion doesn’t spread. One issue that this has caused is that the circulation of goods has been halted to a certain degree as all delivery channels have been banned. As online delivery services were also not allowed for a certain while, it had caused people to break the restriction of social distancing. This issue was recently addressed by the CEO of foodpanda Nauman Sikander Mirza who appealed to the government and stakeholders.

Nauman Sikandar Mirza posted a video on his social media handle and appealed to the government and the people to ensure people are safe while stabilizing the economy. He went on to appreciate the effort of the government, military, law enforcement agencies and armed forces to help the nation combat the global pandemic in an efficient manner. He urged the government to implement an unprecedented strategy that will ensure health and safety of masses without crippling the economic activities. Nauman proposed a committee to be formed in all provinces to get in touch with businesspersons for the initiative.

For foodpanda in particular, he wishes for them to be granted permission for specific restaurants to operate their kitchen. This is particularly because this can work to ensure a high quality standard is maintained. Nauman sourced the World Health Organization (WHO) which ensures that there is no link between food and COVID-19. Therefore,  Contact Less Deliveries need to be introduced for foodpanda customers where human contact is already low.

Countries like China have controlled the spread of the virus while stabilizing the economy and methods such as these will allow people to not go out and shop. Businesses can resume online delivery services as they’re a risk-free option and can include distribution of hand sanitizers, face masks etc.
