The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to postpone the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at fuel stations in Islamabad until the federal government finalizes a comprehensive EV policy.
The decision was made during a recent board meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa. While the board discussed the proposal to mandate EV charging stations at all existing and new fuel stations in the city, they opted to wait for the federal government’s policy framework to avoid any potential inconsistencies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed strong support for the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan and has established a high-level steering committee to develop a comprehensive EV policy. However, the finalization of this policy is still pending.
The delay in the implementation of EV charging infrastructure highlights the need for a clear and coordinated approach to EV adoption in Pakistan. A comprehensive EV policy will provide a roadmap for the development of charging infrastructure, incentives for EV adoption, and other necessary measures to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles.
Once the federal government’s EV policy is finalized, the CDA is expected to proceed with the installation of EV charging stations, aligning with the national vision for sustainable transportation.
