Bank Alfalah has unveiled a significant upgrade to its Tap and Pay service, enabling secure, tokenized payments through NFC-enabled Android smartphones at retail outlets and e-commerce merchants worldwide.

The innovative Tap and Pay service now extends beyond traditional NFC-enabled cards to mobile devices. With payment tokenization, the service replaces real card numbers with secret codes, enhancing the security of transactions made via smartphones.

Over one million Bank Alfalah credit and debit cardholders can now use a Digital Token for their daily transactions, eliminating the need to carry physical wallets. This token substitutes sensitive cardholder information, such as the 16-digit Personal Account Number (PAN) and CVV, with randomly generated numbers, ensuring that card data remains protected during transactions at POS terminals and online platforms.

Bank Alfalah’s Tap and Pay service enhances security by preventing actual card details from being stored with merchants, thus safeguarding against data breaches and cyber fraud. These digital tokens are essential in securing digital payments and providing enhanced security.

“We are further enhancing Bank Alfalah Tap and Pay functionality to enable tokenized payments, allowing our cardholders to seamlessly make transactions conveniently and securely with their Smartphones. Innovation in payments is a key priority for us. We firmly believe that evolution powered by new technology, which provides a frictionless user experience is what we desire for our cardholders,” said Mehreen Ahmed, Group Head Retail Banking.

Activating Bank Alfalah Tap and Pay is straightforward:

  • Log in to the Alfa App.
  • Tap on “Tap & Pay” or “Card” menu to start the process.
  • Select your card (Debit or Credit).
  • Enable NFC and set Alfa as the default for contactless payments.
  • Confirm, and your Digital Card is ready to use!

Currently, this service is available exclusively on NFC-enabled Android devices.

Bank Alfalah remains a pioneer in digital banking solutions in Pakistan, continually empowering customers with advanced payment technologies that enhance convenience and security. The upgraded Tap and Pay service highlights the bank’s commitment to driving financial inclusion and embracing technological advancements in the banking sector.
