The registration deadline for virtual private networks has once again been extended by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) (VPNs). The PTA has notified that the registration deadline for VPNs has been extended to December 31.

The Authority also stated in the public notice that it is against PTA rules to use any form of communication that makes communication secret or encrypted, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

According to the PTA, the registration process for VPNs has been made simpler. According to the authorities, organisations from the public and private sectors, diplomatic missions, and independent contractors who wish to use VPNs for their legal needs must register them on the web application by December 31, 2022, in order to prevent any disruptions.

Applications sent through any other channel will not be accepted, according to the public notice. Applications for VPN registration will only be accepted through the PTA online application, which is available in the link.

According to the PTA, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) recommended that the deadline be extended.

The PTA repeatedly postponed the deadline for VPN registration. Previously, the deadline for VPN registration was November 30, 2022.
