Ameer-ud-Din Medical College has introduced virtual body dissection technology, positioning itself among the leading public sector medical institutions in Pakistan to adopt international standard digital anatomy tools for medical education. The state of the art digital anatomy system, valued at Rs15 million, was inaugurated by Postgraduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal.
The facility is designed to give medical students advanced practical training in human anatomy, organ function and complex medical procedures through a digital platform rather than relying solely on traditional teaching methods. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Afzal said the technology had been made possible through educational and research support provided by philanthropists, describing the system as a life size, touch enabled 3D virtual human body that allows students to digitally dissect different body parts, zoom into anatomical structures, and rotate them a full 360 degrees for detailed study.
Afzal said the technology would allow students to learn human anatomy safely and comprehensively without relying on traditional chemicals or human cadavers, offering a more modern and interactive learning experience. He added that the institute remains committed to providing students with education and training aligned with global standards, noting that the new facility would let students practice procedures in a controlled environment before working directly with patients or performing surgeries, an approach intended to improve their professional skills, confidence and clinical readiness ahead of real world practice.
Afzal thanked the philanthropists for their contribution, saying such support helps build academic and research standards while also supporting improved patient care at Lahore General Hospital. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing internationally aligned educational and research facilities, positioning the initiative as part of a broader effort to advance quality medical education, innovation and patient focused healthcare services. The ceremony was attended by several senior faculty members and doctors from the institute, along with students who will be among the first to use the new virtual dissection laboratory as part of their coursework.
