Alibaba, the Chinese ecommerce website by revenue is currently the sixth largest internet company in the world right now. The ecommerce giant has been crashing records after records with their recent Single’s Day Sale where they sold over $25 billion dollar worth products. This was essentially a 39% increase on their revenues as compared to their Single’s day sale last year.
With ecommerce taking off in Pakistan, it is being said that Alibaba is looking to set foot in Pakistan as well either directly or through a number of partnerships with the local companies. Furthermore, Alipay the payments subsidiary of the group is all set to launch itself in the country very soon.

Ecommerce is also an ideal solution for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to directly supply their products to the end-consumers in any part of the world, according to Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Shabbir Hussain Chawla taking to a local newspaper on Tuesday. Speaking to the delegation of Alibaba in the FCCI conference room on Wednesday, it is reported that he said, there is no doubt that Alibaba is an e-commerce giant, and a pioneer in supplying products online.
He further added that Pakistan should get into ecommerce in collaboration with Alibaba to get maximum dividends from its portal in addition to launching its own companies. He also said that, Alibaba should establish its warehouses in different countries to ensure speedy supply to customers in addition to having effective logistical services and reliable banking systems to repay the amount if the delivered products are found to be defective or damaged.

At the meeting, Jason Jia and Patrik Wang of Alibaba gave a briefing on the operational activities of the e-commerce giant and said that it will provide a unique opportunity for Faisalabad’s SMEs to gain direct access to buyers without establishing their own warehouses and involving middlemen.
Additionally, back in September a delegation from Alibaba had met with the representatives of TCS Holdings, one of Pakistan’s leading courier, logistics and e-commerce providers, to discuss the potential for B2B and ecommerce market development in the country.
During their visit, the delegation from Alibaba was briefed on the role and presence of TCS in the domestic market along with the company’s alliance with the global logistics leader United Parcel Service (UPS) for international express services.
