ISLAMABAD: National Information Technology Board and Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony have signed a memorandum of understanding to fully digitize Hajj operations, marking a significant step in the government’s broader digital transformation agenda. The initiative is being implemented under the direction of Shehbaz Sharif and with the leadership of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, according to official statements.
The agreement aims to introduce an integrated end to end digital system designed to streamline administrative processes related to Hajj arrangements. Officials stated that the move is intended to reduce procedural delays, minimise manual errors and enhance coordination among departments involved in facilitating pilgrims. By leveraging technology driven solutions, the government plans to improve transparency, efficiency and service delivery across various stages of Hajj management, including application processing, information dissemination and logistical coordination.
Under the framework of the memorandum, digital tools will be strengthened to ensure smoother communication between authorities and pilgrims. The Pak Hajj mobile application is expected to be further improved to make it more user friendly, while backend systems will support better data management and monitoring. Authorities have indicated that the digitization process will also enhance interdepartmental linkages and enable more structured oversight of timelines and service standards, ensuring that pilgrims receive timely updates and support.
The development has received prominent coverage across national media platforms, reflecting the significance of digitizing one of the country’s largest annual administrative operations. Officials described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts to modernise public sector services through technology integration, aligning with broader Digital Pakistan objectives. By embedding digital processes within Hajj operations, the government aims to create a more responsive and efficient system that meets the needs of citizens while strengthening institutional capacity.
