Studio Atelico has unveiled its AI-powered debut title, Bobium Brawlers, introducing a new approach to mobile gaming where players can generate their own creatures through AI. Scheduled for release on iOS later this year, the game combines turn-based card battles with dice mechanics, giving users a unique tactical experience. What sets Bobium Brawlers apart is its AI Engine, which allows players to create creatures simply by describing them. The AI runs on-device, ensuring low latency, user privacy, and no additional costs, though the game requires devices with recent Neural Engine models, likely iPhone 13 and newer. Studio Atelico trained the AI with a wide variety of pre-designed decks and cards to ensure the generated creatures align with the game’s artistic vision.

Art Director Mollie Boorman explained during a presentation attended by Wccftech that the studio employed human artists to create a rich set of training assets. Each image was paired with descriptions to help train the AI, enabling players to produce unique artwork in minutes. Boorman emphasized that the game could not have been developed without AI while clarifying that the studio continues to rely on human creativity for non-creature assets. Studio Atelico maintains a clear ethical approach, compensating artists for their work and offering royalties on in-game AI-generated creatures based on their contributions. The studio’s model is explicitly designed to support artists and players while integrating AI responsibly.

During the session, CEO and co-founder Piero Molino addressed potential backlash from gamers skeptical of AI in games, noting that opposition often stems from concerns about poor-quality AI outputs and exploitation of human creators. Molino clarified that Studio Atelico’s approach avoids these pitfalls, aiming to demonstrate how AI can enable new game mechanics without harming artists. He added that while some AI components currently operate in the cloud, the studio plans to move all processing on-device to reduce costs and improve performance. The design ensures that the cost per AI-generated creature remains negligible, supporting broader adoption of AI technology in future games.

Bobium Brawlers gameplay emphasizes 1v1 battles where players can strategically combine cards and dice rolls to execute clever combos. Matches prioritize tactical decision-making rather than meta grinding, encouraging creative strategies. The game also incorporates a visually distinct art style maintained by the studio’s artists, reflecting their contributions in both training and ongoing royalties. With Bobium Brawlers, Studio Atelico hopes to show that AI can enhance gaming experiences ethically while delivering new creative opportunities. Interested players and fans can follow updates and engage with the game via Studio Atelico’s website and social channels.
