Punjab government has rolled out an extensive set of security regulations for all public and private schools, reinforcing the province’s commitment to student safety. The new directives require schools to implement 8-foot boundary walls, barbed wire, and advanced surveillance systems, ensuring a secure environment for students and staff. Officials highlighted that prior guidelines recommending safety upgrades were inconsistently followed, prompting authorities to formalize enforceable measures. The aim is to create a consistent safety standard across all educational institutions and minimize risks associated with on-campus security lapses.

Under the updated framework, schools are now required to deploy trained security personnel and ensure continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras and webcams throughout the premises. Metal detectors and panic buttons at main entrances have been mandated, with staff actively overseeing access points during school hours. Educational institutions must operate through a single controlled entry point and conduct periodic emergency drills in collaboration with Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence teams. Clear marking of emergency exits, display of key helpline numbers in principal offices and staff rooms, and accessible emergency plans are now mandatory to enable swift responses in case of incidents.

Authorities have further emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness, instructing schools to maintain water reservoirs for potential crises and obtain clearance from Special Branch before continued operation. Officials stated that these measures are designed to strengthen campus security protocols while fostering a safe, stable, and conducive learning environment. The government expects schools to comply fully, with non-adherence potentially resulting in penalties or temporary suspension of operations. These steps reflect a wider commitment to protecting students and maintaining public confidence in the safety of educational institutions across Punjab.

The initiative aligns with broader provincial priorities to enhance both safety and educational standards. By integrating infrastructure upgrades, controlled access, continuous monitoring, and emergency response strategies, schools can better anticipate and respond to potential risks. Education authorities plan to conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance, and they are encouraging closer coordination between school administrations, law enforcement, and emergency services. Officials also noted that ongoing awareness campaigns will inform staff, students, and parents about the new measures, fostering a culture of preparedness and vigilance.

With these comprehensive security measures, Punjab aims to ensure that every student can learn in a safe environment, while administrators have the necessary tools and guidance to protect staff and visitors. The government anticipates that this proactive approach will not only improve immediate campus safety but also support the long-term stability of educational institutions across the province, creating a model that other regions can emulate in prioritizing the welfare of students and educational staff alike.
