Pakistan’s Remote-Sensing Satellite Enters Orbit, Begins Transmitting High-Resolution Images

Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) confirmed that its latest remote-sensing satellite has successfully entered orbit following its launch from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre last month. In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency said that the satellite has established stable communication with ground stations and has begun transmitting high-resolution imagery, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s technological capacity in space-based observation.

Equipped with advanced imaging technology, the satellite is designed to enhance data accuracy and availability for multiple national sectors. It will provide vital support in urban and regional planning, particularly in monitoring the expansion of cities, mapping infrastructure, and tracking patterns of development. The system is also set to play a central role in disaster preparedness and response, giving authorities the tools to issue timely warnings and react swiftly to floods, earthquakes, landslides, and other natural disasters. Officials noted that these capabilities will be critical for safeguarding lives and resources during emergencies when rapid and precise data can make a decisive difference.

Beyond disaster management and planning, the satellite will significantly contribute to environmental monitoring. SUPARCO highlighted that its technology can track the pace of glacier melt, deforestation, and other climate change indicators across sensitive ecosystems. This information will aid policymakers and environmental agencies in designing strategies to address long-term sustainability challenges. The agriculture sector is also expected to benefit from the system’s applications in precision farming, crop mapping, and water resource management, helping ensure food security and better land use practices across the country.

The satellite is Pakistan’s second remote-sensing system after PRSS-1, expanding national capabilities in earth observation and geospatial analysis. By supplying more reliable data, the technology is set to strengthen decision-making across government, scientific, and economic fields. In its statement, SUPARCO emphasized that “these enhanced capabilities will not only strengthen decision-making across various fields but also promote sustainable socio-economic growth and reinforce Pakistan’s technological independence.” Officials also stressed that the successful deployment reflects ongoing cooperation with international partners while advancing domestic expertise in satellite development and operations.

With stable links now established and initial transmissions underway, the system will be integrated into national frameworks for planning, disaster resilience, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. For Pakistan, this development marks an important milestone in expanding the role of space technology in driving innovation and supporting socio-economic progress.
