Lahore University of Management Sciences (SBA School of Science and Engineering), in collaboration with Higher Education Commission and the Planning Commission of Pakistan, is organizing the “Leaders in Science and Innovation Policy.”
It is a 3-day workshop for senior academic and policy leaders and will be conducted by internationally recognized expert faculty and leading national figures that will be covering fundamental ideas and topics in science, technology, and innovation policy.
The aim of the workshop is to build capacity or local academic and policy leaders as well as inform and catalyze a debate about the nature of science and innovation policy, the debate around the changing role of universities in the society, the proper role of the government in supporting science at universities and public labs, and the proper culture of measurement and entrepreneurship at the Universities.
The participants will be able to learn the key ideas, participate in discussions, and create a professional network of policy-minded academics and policymakers around the country. The workshop is supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and is for anyone interested in developing a keen understanding of the policy environment and playing a part in these debates, nationally and internationally.
Some of the key points discussed will be: Policy for Science and Science for Policy Perspectives; Setting National Research Priorities; Funding Science: Best Practices and Global Comparisons; Science for Innovation and Research Commercialization; Measuring Research Performance in Science; Academic Leadership, Ethics, and the University; and Communicating Science to the Policymaker
The Faculty Lead for the workshop is Mr. Ehsan Masood, an internationally known figure in science policy and journalism and has taught at Imperial College, London and was formerly a Commissioning Editor at the prestigious journal Nature. The faculty co-Lead for the workshop is Dr. Athar Osama,the Member Science and Technology at the Planning Commission and is a recognized authority on Science in the Muslim World. He is also a Fellow of the World Technology Network (WTN) and a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.
