At P@SHA x Tencent Roundtable: Boosting Pakistan’s Gaming Industry and E-sports Ecosystem
The global gaming industry is projected to reach a staggering worth of $321 billion by 2026, and Pakistan, with its increasing internet penetration and burgeoning young population, is poised to be part of this growth. With a rising demand for a wholesome gaming experience, game development has emerged as a promising enterprise in the country. Pakistan boasts the fourth-largest talent pool of 350,000 game developers, generating an annual revenue of $40-$50 million. The products of Pakistan’s game industry have already made their mark in countries like Spain, South Korea, Turkey, and several other Asian nations. However, both the public and private sectors need to intervene further to bolster this ecosystem.
Leading the way in innovation, Telenor Pakistan became the pioneer by launching GameBird, an E-sports platform aimed at boosting the gaming ecosystem in the country. As the premier gaming platform in Pakistan, GameBird aims to create a vibrant community and provide talented gamers with opportunities to showcase their skills.
During the P@SHA x Tencent Roundtable, fruitful discussions were held with the Tencent team, including Atifa Asghar, Aslam Hayat, and Lih Shiun Goh, exploring the ambitious goals of Telenor. It was a pleasure to learn from Badar Khushnood, and it is exciting to see P@SHA’s ambitious plans for the gaming industry.
