In order to control hoarding and profiteering in the province, the Government of Punjab has launched a mobile phone app to control market prices of daily use items.
The app is called Qeemat Sialkot and was launched by the District administration of Sialkot, with the consultation of the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs. The app is said to update users with the prices of household items such as vegetables, fruits, and other food items listed by the government on a daily basis.
With the app, the consumers can also lodge a complaint against any shop/store that is selling substandard products or at higher prices and along with misconduct.
Furthermore, according to the local news, the Deputy Commissioner of Sialkot has formed a special monitoring unit which will look into the daily complaints. A notification has also been issued by the District administration asking all consumer shop/store owners to comply with the order, as the application also allows easy tracing of non-compliers.
The app has successfully completed one month of beta testing and is soon to be introduced in other cities of Punjab. The app is available for download at theGoogle Play Store.
