NGIRI Championship took place on the 3rd of April 2019 where the students displayed their final year projects. The event was funded by Ignite, National Technology Fund.
The event was attended by the IT Minister, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Chairman PTA, Maj Gen (R.) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Rector GIKI, Jehangir Bashar, and CEO USF, Rizwan Mir. At the event, the esteemed guest encouraged and inspired students and their supervisors.
The judges at the event included Shahida Saleem, Farhat Bashir, Asim Ghaffar, and Murtaza Zaidi, leaders of the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem, who selected the champions. Speaking about the competition, on his social media, Yusuf Hussain said, “All the participants displayed creativity, hands-on-engineering, and soft skills like work ethics, team spirit, and perseverance.”
He also mentioned that some of the participants are to go on to produce industry grade products, which proliferate. He gave the examples of Ali Gul, one of last year’s champs, who made a smart helmet for miners. The helmet isnow under testing by the Baluchistan Government Mines Department.
