WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, has announced a new feature that allows users to transcribe voice messages into text. This long-awaited feature will be rolled out globally in the coming weeks.

The voice message transcription feature is designed to provide flexibility and convenience to users, especially in situations where listening to voice messages is impractical, such as in noisy environments or while multitasking. By converting voice messages into text, users can easily read and respond to messages at their own pace.

To ensure privacy and security, the transcription process is conducted directly on the user’s device, without any third-party involvement, including WhatsApp itself. Users can enable the feature by navigating to Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts. Once activated, users can long-press on any voice message and select the “transcribe” option to generate a text transcript.

Initially, the feature will be available in a limited set of languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian on Android, and a wider range of languages on iOS 16+ and iOS 17+. WhatsApp plans to expand language support in the future to cater to a broader user base.

This new feature reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and adapting to the evolving needs of its users. By providing options for both audio and text-based communication, WhatsApp empowers users to connect and communicate in the way that best suits their preferences and circumstances.
