In a major step to protect children online, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Meta have launched a Urdu-language version of the TakeItDown portal. This critical tool will make it easier for the Pakistani public to report Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

The launch comes as part of PTA ongoing efforts to create a safer online environment for children and young people. NCMEC and Meta representatives met with PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman to discuss the portal and Meta’s latest youth safety initiatives.

“The TakeItDown portal empowers people to report CSAM and remove explicit images and videos of themselves taken before they were 18,” said Heather M. Girton, NCMEC’s Program Specialist for Cyber Tipline. “This Urdu version will make it easier for more Pakistanis to use this vital tool.”

Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Meta’s Head of Safety Policy for APAC, reaffirmed Meta’s commitment to child safety in Pakistan. “We are constantly developing new tools and initiatives to keep young people safe online,” she said.

Chairman Rehman welcomed the launch of the Urdu TakeItDown portal and highlighted PTA’s dedication to online safety. “We are committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure a secure online environment for Pakistan’s children,” he said.

A workshop was also held to train participants on using the TakeItDown portal and raising awareness about online safety issues like cyberbullying, privacy breaches, and exposure to inappropriate content.

This initiative demonstrates PTA’s commitment to fostering a safe and secure digital space for Pakistani children. By promoting responsible internet use and collaborating with stakeholders, PTA aims to continuously improve online safety measures for a better online experience.
