Students from Turbat University in Balochistan’s Kech district have developed a mobile application named “Shanakht,” which promises to revolutionize local policing efforts. The innovative app, tailored specifically for the district police, enables law enforcement officers to access detailed information on suspects involved in criminal activities or fugitives in real time, significantly enhancing their ability to prevent crimes and apprehend offenders.

The creation of Shanakht is a milestone not only for Turbat University but also for the Kech district police, as it represents a technological leap forward in local law enforcement capabilities. The application serves as a comprehensive database and quick-access tool for officers, offering detailed profiles, criminal records, and alerts about individuals suspected of illegal activities. By streamlining the process of suspect identification and tracking, the app eliminates the reliance on traditional, often time-consuming, methods of record-keeping and investigation.

The project, which took just four months to complete, reflects the creativity and technical expertise of the students involved. After rigorous development and testing phases, Shanakht was formally handed over to the Kech District Police in a special ceremony that highlighted the collaboration between academia and law enforcement. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Kech, Rashid-ur-Rehman, expressed his appreciation for the students’ efforts, praising their dedication and innovation. To honor their contributions, he awarded the team with certificates of recognition, describing their work as a significant step toward modernizing the local policing system.

SP Rashid-ur-Rehman noted that the app’s user-friendly interface and robust functionality would prove to be invaluable in the fight against crime. “This initiative is a shining example of how technology and innovation can come together to address real-world challenges. The Shanakht app will not only improve the efficiency of our police force but also boost public trust in our ability to ensure safety and security in the district,” he remarked.

The app is expected to have a wide range of applications in daily policing activities. It allows officers to identify suspects on the spot, cross-reference data with the existing police database, and receive instant updates on ongoing cases or investigations. Moreover, Shanakht includes features that facilitate collaboration between officers and departments, ensuring a coordinated and timely response to criminal incidents. These advancements are particularly critical in Balochistan, where maintaining law and order in remote and often challenging terrain remains a top priority.

The success of this initiative underscores the growing potential of youth-driven innovation in Pakistan. The students of Turbat University demonstrated that with the right guidance and support, even resource-constrained regions can produce cutting-edge technological solutions to complex problems. Their work aligns with a broader vision of integrating technology into public service sectors, including law enforcement, to ensure greater efficiency and transparency.

The collaboration between Turbat University and the district police also highlights the importance of fostering partnerships between educational institutions and public sector organizations. By leveraging the skills and creativity of students, these collaborations can address local challenges while providing young innovators with a platform to showcase their talents. The Shanakht app stands as a testament to the transformative power of such partnerships.

Local officials and community leaders have applauded the initiative, viewing it as a beacon of progress for the region. “This achievement not only brings pride to the people of Kech but also sets an example for other districts and provinces. It shows that our youth have the capability to drive meaningful change and contribute to the betterment of society,” said a representative from the Balochistan government.

As Shanakht is deployed and integrated into the operations of the Kech district police, it is expected to serve as a model for other regions in Pakistan looking to modernize their law enforcement systems. With further development and potential scalability, the app could become a national asset, providing a template for similar initiatives across the country.

The students of Turbat University have not only demonstrated their technical prowess but have also shown how innovation can address critical societal needs. Their work with the Shanakht app is a source of inspiration, proving that even in remote areas, young minds can contribute significantly to national progress. This achievement reinforces the notion that investing in education and fostering innovation at the grassroots level is key to unlocking Pakistan’s full potential.
