He was running the direct-to-order PC company from his dorm room, and later on Dell Inc. became the largest manufacturer of PCs in the world for many years. Currently, Hewlett Packard and Acer overtake it.
What was founded at UT Austin dorm-room, led to one of the biggest technology companies in the world. They started with selling off IBM PC-compatible computers, which were built from stock components.

Dell produced the first computer of its own design, the Turbo PC in 1985, which sold for $795.

In very recent history, (2015), Dell announced its intention on acquiring EMC; the enterprise software and storage company. It was labeled as the highest-valued tech acquisition in history at $67 billion, which was materialized on September 7, 2016.
