Sindh government has extended the deadline for vehicle owners to replace their old registration books with new smart cards equipped with advanced security features. Initially set for April 3, 2025, the new deadline for this mandatory switch has been pushed to May 15, 2025, giving vehicle owners an additional window to update their documents.

The announcement was made by Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, who approved the extension to facilitate the public. The decision was welcomed by many vehicle owners who were concerned about the initial deadline, which many felt was too soon to comply with the new regulations. The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has since issued a formal notification confirming the new deadline.

The initiative to replace the traditional vehicle registration books with smart cards is part of a larger effort by the Sindh government to modernize the province’s vehicle documentation process. The new smart cards are designed with enhanced security features, including digital recordkeeping and tamper-proof elements that make them much harder to forge. This move is seen as a critical step in curbing the rising problem of fake registration documents, which has been a significant issue in the province.

Authorities have urged all vehicle owners across Sindh to take advantage of the extension and update their registration documents before the new cutoff date. The process of exchanging old books for the new smart cards is straightforward and can be done at designated centers throughout the province. By moving to a digital system, the government aims to ensure that all vehicle registrations are secure, accurate, and easier to track.

The introduction of these smart cards is expected to bring significant benefits, not only in terms of security but also in streamlining the overall vehicle registration process. With digital records in place, the chances of fraud are significantly reduced, and authorities can access accurate information about vehicle ownership and registration status more efficiently.

As the new deadline approaches, officials are reminding vehicle owners that they must complete the process before May 15, 2025, or risk facing penalties. The extension provides a valuable opportunity for those who may have missed the original deadline or are in the process of gathering the necessary documents to make the switch. The government has expressed its commitment to making this transition as smooth as possible for the public, ensuring that everyone has ample time to comply with the new requirements.
