PTA in collaboration with FIA Cyber Crime Circle, has intensified its crackdown on the illegal issuance of SIM cards, with a recent successful operation in Mianwali. The targeted telecom franchise was found to be engaging in fraudulent activities by bypassing the biometric verification system, posing serious threats to national security and consumer protection.

During the raid, the authorities discovered and seized 496 digital fingerprint impressions, which were being used to manipulate the Biometric Verification System (BVS). Along with these, multiple BVS devices, two scanners, and a laptop were confiscated as evidence. The FIA team immediately arrested the franchise owner and registered a FIR to initiate further legal proceedings. Investigators are now working to trace the network of individuals involved in this illegal operation, as such activities have been linked to financial fraud, cybercrime, and even potential national security risks.

PTA’s Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) was specifically designed to curb the misuse of SIM card registrations by preventing unauthorized individuals from acquiring mobile connections through fake or stolen identities. However, certain elements have been attempting to bypass this security mechanism through illicit means. The ongoing operations by PTA and FIA are aimed at dismantling such networks, ensuring that mobile connections are only issued through legitimate channels and in compliance with regulatory standards.

The authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on SIM-related fraud, warning all telecom operators and franchise owners to strictly adhere to verification protocols. PTA has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious SIM registration activities to prevent unauthorized access to telecommunication services. The crackdown is expected to continue in various parts of the country as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and digital identity protection.
