The world is currently going through one of the biggest challenges it has encountered since over a decade with a Covid-19 pandemic that has resulted in the people around the world isolating themselves and remaining in Quarantine for an undetermined period of time. Hence, it has become imperative that people around the world are well aware of the preemptive measures to avoid corona virus. As the nation remains under lockdown, it has been reported that the internet consumption has surged in the country.
According to information being publicly collected from telecom operators by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), a net increase of around 15% in internet usage was witnessed since last week as the country fights against Corona virus. The rapid increase in internet usage has been observed due to widespread increase in online activities by educational institutions, businesses and organizations around the country who have adopted the ‘work from home’ policy. Moreover, individuals have also used this manner to go back to recreational activities such as learning new languages or immersing themselves in gaming.
However, one of the biggest problem that this may have caused is that some users around the country have to finish their work or education by facing congestion and slower speeds. This has been particularly noticed while working or using mobile broadband. PTA have gone on to assure the users and citizens that there is sufficient internet capacity available in the country to meet the growing demands of the internet users of the country in the near future. PTA also went on to state that it has been closely monitoring the internet usage patterns so as to ensure that fast & efficient telecom services remain available to the consumers in this difficult time. Internet usage has never been more of a priority than in 2020 and we hope that this entity can make the lives of thousands of users easier.
