Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched a new national IT programme aimed at driving Pakistan’s digital transformation and accelerating the growth of its technology-based economy. The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday, seeks to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure, support the development of IT skills, and enable greater participation of youth in technology-driven fields. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the programme is part of a broader national effort to create a supportive environment for the IT industry and position Pakistan as a key player in the global digital landscape.
Under the new initiative, the government will focus on expanding opportunities in key digital domains such as freelancing, e-commerce, and software development. These sectors have shown strong potential for employment generation and export revenue, particularly as global demand for IT and digital services continues to rise. The programme will provide structured training, mentorship, and resources to help young professionals and entrepreneurs acquire practical digital skills that meet international standards. Officials stated that this approach will help increase Pakistan’s IT exports while also promoting local innovation and entrepreneurship.
