As anticipation builds for the Made by Google event on 20 August, the Pixel Watch 4 continues to generate buzz with a steady stream of leaks. Following in the footsteps of the Pixel 10 phones, which are among the most leaked devices in recent memory, the upcoming smartwatch has seen detailed specifications, renders, and promotional slides surface online. Notorious leaker Evan Blass has been at the center of these revelations, sharing extensive details about what users can expect from Google’s latest wearable. While many features appear promising, there is still an element of mystery surrounding one particular aspect of its design.
Among the confirmed upgrades is a new display technology branded as ‘Actua 360,’ which will reportedly deliver up to 3000 nits of peak brightness. This enhancement is set to make the screen much more visible in bright outdoor conditions. The Pixel Watch 4 will also introduce dual-band GPS for more precise tracking, particularly useful for athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Health and wellness features are being expanded, with the device supporting ECG, SpO2, breathing rate, heart rate variability, and even loss of pulse detection. Battery performance also looks improved, with the 41mm model expected to last 30 hours and the larger 45mm version extending to 40 hours, even with the always-on display enabled.
In terms of design options, the smaller 41mm model will be the only one available in gold, while the 45mm version will come in silver, obsidian, and a new moonstone finish. Google is also enhancing its software and ecosystem integration. Gemini will be built into the watch, offering features such as AI-powered text suggestions that mimic the user’s communication style. Fitness tracking will be bolstered with over 40 exercise modes, real-time stats, a custom run plan builder, and fall detection that can automatically connect to emergency services. Notably, Google seems keen to encourage adoption of the LTE model, offering buyers two years of free mobile data. However, this offer appears tied to Google Fi, which likely restricts the benefit to users in the US, and notably, it will not support voice calls.
Despite these appealing upgrades, one detail remains unresolved and could cause disappointment. The leaked renders have avoided showing the left side of the watch body, sparking speculation that Google may be concealing the presence of new charging pogo pins. Reports suggest the Pixel Watch 4 is moving to a redesigned charging dock that offers 25 percent faster charging and a side-mounted orientation for improved visibility. While this change enhances functionality and repairability, it could come at a visual cost if the pins prove to be an unattractive addition. Early renders gloss over this detail, leaving questions about how noticeable the pins may be in real-world use and whether their prominence varies across color options.
Although the Pixel Watch 4 is expected to be unveiled at the 20 August event, the actual release may not occur until October, when it could launch alongside the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Until then, speculation continues around whether Google has successfully balanced functionality with aesthetics or if the hidden design compromise will temper enthusiasm for its latest smartwatch.
