Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has taken a significant step towards modernizing its operations by constituting a working group focused on institutional reforms. The group, dubbed the “Working Group on PEC Institutional Reforms (WG-PECIR),” will be led by Lieutenant General Kashif Nazir, Chief of Army Engineers and a member of the PEC Governing Body.
One of the key objectives of the working group is to introduce an e-voting system for PEC elections. This digital transformation aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the electoral process. The group will also identify gaps in PEC’s current rules of business and propose necessary amendments to align with contemporary regulatory standards.
Additionally, the working group will scrutinize PEC’s governance structure to ensure optimal resource utilization and clarity of roles and responsibilities. It will also address broader institutional issues, such as promoting accountability in engineering practices and strengthening the council’s core values of collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence.
The WG-PECIR comprises a diverse group of senior PEC members, including Engineer Akhtar Abbas Bharwana as co-chair, and Engineers Khalid Mehmood, Muhammad Zeeshan, Najam Waheed, and retired Lieutenant Engineer Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi. Registrar Naseer Khan and Additional Registrar Muhammad Sohail Khan will also contribute their expertise to the group.
The working group is expected to submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to PEC’s chairman and governing body. By implementing these reforms, PEC aims to establish a more efficient, transparent, and accountable regulatory framework for the engineering profession in Pakistan.
