Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja met with Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, to discuss deepening bilateral collaboration in digital infrastructure, emerging technologies, semiconductor development, and talent exchange initiatives. The meeting is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen technology partnerships with international stakeholders and align national initiatives with the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation vision.

During the discussions, Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the importance of collaborative frameworks to support the development of robust digital infrastructure in Pakistan. She highlighted the government’s focus on expanding connectivity, promoting AI adoption, and facilitating technology-driven solutions for public and private sector applications. Zhang Yunming expressed China’s interest in supporting joint initiatives that enhance digital capabilities, share technical expertise, and enable the transfer of knowledge and resources in key technology sectors.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in semiconductor technology and the development of talent pipelines to support innovation and industrial growth. Both officials recognized the strategic importance of creating skilled human capital capable of driving advanced technology projects and fostering sustainable growth. Initiatives discussed included talent exchange programs, collaborative research, and training opportunities designed to strengthen Pakistan’s technical workforce while benefiting from China’s experience in industrial digital transformation.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to achieve its Digital Nation objectives. She noted that the collaboration with MIIT China would support emerging technology projects, enhance digital public infrastructure, and accelerate the country’s progress in AI, smart cities, and next-generation digital services. The dialogue reflects both countries’ shared goals of technological development, innovation, and the creation of an inclusive digital ecosystem that benefits government, industry, and citizens.

The discussions also explored potential joint initiatives in areas such as cloud computing, data-driven governance, and cybersecurity frameworks. Both sides agreed to pursue practical projects and knowledge-sharing programs that can be implemented in the near term, ensuring Pakistan’s digital ecosystem is strengthened while aligning with global standards. By combining expertise, resources, and policy coordination, the partnership aims to create a sustainable environment for emerging technology growth while providing the skills and infrastructure needed to support Pakistan’s long-term digital ambitions.

This engagement builds on prior bilateral cooperation and underscores the strategic role of technology collaboration between Pakistan and China. It reflects Pakistan’s intention to remain aligned with international best practices in digital development while fostering partnerships that contribute to national growth, innovation, and economic stability.
