Pakistan Academy of Sciences Elects Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik as 20th President for 2024-2026 Term

The Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) recently completed its Council Election for the term 2024-2026, emphasizing its dedication to advancing education and research in the pure and applied sciences in Pakistan. Distinguished individuals from various scientific disciplines were elected to the Council, reflecting a collective commitment to PAS goals.

The election, held on December 1, 2023, witnessed the participation of Fellows casting their votes to shape the leadership for the upcoming term. Prof. Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik secured the position of President unopposed, marking the 20th President of PAS. His unanimous endorsement positions him to lead the Academy from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026.

The newly elected Council includes Vice Presidents Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qaiser, Secretary General Prof. Dr. M. Aslam Baig, and Treasurer Prof. Dr. Saleem Asghar. The leadership team also comprises Associate Secretary General Dr. Abdul Rauf Shakoori, along with Secretaries of Provincial Chapters Dr. M. Raza Shah, Dr. M. Waheed Akhtar, and Dr. Sardar Khan.

Executive Members elected include Dr. Saqib Ali, Maj. Gen. Dr. Aamer Ikram, Dr. Ahmad Mukhtar Khalid, and Dr. Asghari Maqsood, each contributing their expertise to the Academy’s collective vision.

Dr. Abdullah Malik, the newly elected President, pledged to leverage available resources and implement effective measures to advance higher education and research in Pakistan. He acknowledged PAS Fellows as “shining stars of the highest scientific abilities,” emphasizing their experience and capabilities in furthering the Academy’s goals.

The newly elected Council is set to officially assume office on January 1, 2024, marking the beginning of a new era for PAS. As it takes charge, PAS is poised to continue playing a pivotal role in fostering a culture of learning, research, and innovation in Pakistan, solidifying its position at the forefront of scientific excellence.
