The EU-funded and UNIDO-implemented Poverty Alleviation & Inclusive Development Across Rural Sindh (PAIDAR) program successfully concluded a Business Grants Orientation event today at the Marriott Hotel in Karachi.

This event aimed to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs, and associations. It attracted 77 enthusiastic shortlisted applicants representing a diverse range of business sectors, including solar products, automotive, waste management, construction, and e-commerce. These participants will now receive expert guidance from Technical Assistance (TA) companies chosen by PAIDAR to develop strong business proposals.

The high turnout from women-led businesses highlights PAIDAR’s commitment to gender inclusivity and supporting female entrepreneurs in achieving their business goals. The three TA companies providing crucial support are Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF), Empowerment through Creative Integration (ECI), and i-Consult. These renowned organizations possess extensive experience and specialized expertise, ensuring the development of compelling business plans that will compete for PAIDAR grants.

“This event marks a significant step forward for Sindh’s business community,” stated National Programme Coordinator, Mr. Badar ul Islam. “The technical support offered by these TA companies will not only assist businesses in applying for grants, but also empower them to develop strategic business plans that can attract further investments.”

Mr. Raja Khurram Shahzad Umar, Secretary of the Investment Department, emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs for economic growth. He commended the PAIDAR program’s model of sustainable development and its focus on empowering entrepreneurs with financial resources and guidance.

Mr. Khair Muhammad Kalwar, Secretary of the Planning & Development Department, echoed this sentiment, congratulating UNIDO and expressing the Government of Sindh’s (GoS) support for the program.  He encouraged close collaboration between the business community and PAIDAR to achieve shared goals of economic empowerment and poverty reduction.

The event concluded with remarks by National Technical Advisor, Mr. Farooque Ahmed Siddiqui, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers.

The PAIDAR SME Grants are expected to significantly uplift local businesses, leading to job creation, advancements in the business landscape, and equipping SMEs with the tools needed to drive economic growth and development.
